CITY OF DASMARIÑAS, Cavite-–The Communication and Journalism Department (CJD) of De La Salle University Dasmariñas (DLSU-D) is pleased to announce the return of its much-awaited annual event, Communication Impact (COMPACT) 2023, with a program dedicated to emergency preparedness training entitled “Building Resilience: Empowering Communities Through Emergency Preparedness.”

After meticulous planning and preparation, 4th year AB Communication students are thrilled to bring together experts, facilitators, and participants for this event, scheduled on Wednesday, November 22 from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the DLSU-D Waling-Waling Hall.

Following its three years of extensive online engagement, COMPACT 2023 marks a first full onsite gathering since before the pandemic, focusing on fostering resilience and preparedness in communities facing emergencies. The event aims to equip attendees with actionable insights and tools through interactive workshops and discussions, ensuring participants of the event would not only be informed but also empowered.

COMPACT 2023 Co-Chairperson Dr. Nornelyn Cachuela said that the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) thrusts and activities served as the inspiration for this event.  It advocates for Disaster Risk Reduction and Resilience by spreading information and serving as an educational resource.

“This event represents empowerment for the students and participants by giving them a chance to learn basic life support and skills, which includes CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) training,” Cachuela  added.

Co-Project Head Luis Loquillano highlighted, “In times of disasters and emergencies, their impact spares no one and reaches across all boundaries, our community must be equipped with basic safety aid and CPR skills to respond effectively.”

Loquillano explained the mission of “building resilience” for COMPACT 2023 stating, “To [monitor] an inclusive and engaging environment, LCDC (Lasallian Community Development Center) is collaborating to ensure that all participants, regardless of background or experience, can learn and practice basic life support and CPR skills.”

As emphasized by the co-project head, with the help of LCDC, the event organizers will make sure that all of the participants can learn and practice basic life support and CPR.
