Despite this year’s online setup, the “Communication Impact” (COMPACT) event of the University’s Communication and Journalism Department (CJD) officially opened via Zoom and Facebook Live today, Dec. 13.

COMPACT 2021 showcased two main events on its first day, including “The Now Normal Webinar” from 9:00 am – 12:00 pm, and a Public Relations Society of the Philippines (PRSP) Education Caravan entitled, “PReparing PRactitioners for the PRofession” from 2:00 pm – 5:00 pm.

Seasoned speakers spearheaded The Now Normal Webinar, such as Ley Laksamana, the head of Corporate Communications of Goldilocks, Paulo Infante, the president of JPI Entertainment, Madonna Tarrayo, the president and CEO of UxS Inc., and George Putong, a freelance multimedia producer.

It included relevant topics regarding the importance of communication, public relations, management strategies, goal-setting, and tips in pursuing your desired career.

Meanwhile, Norman Agatep, APR and current president of the 4A’s Philippines, discussed ‘PR and Cancel Culture’ while Ed Timbungco, APR and PR Manager of Mang Inasal,  talked about ‘PR as a Life Strategy’ during the PRSP Education Caravan.

Some students laud the speakers and the relevance of the topics discussed during the first day.

According to Samantha Garcia (COM22), Norman Agatep’s talk about Cancel Culture was remarkable for her because it was timely and relevant, especially as a communication student who is continuously learning and improving.

“I think that the most remarkable part of the event was the Q&A segments because some may regard it as cliché, but the topics are significant, especially nowadays.” Joshua Uri (COM21) added.

Alyza Delos Santos (COM41) also stated that her learnings from the PRSP Education Caravan would be worth it once she starts stepping on the actual world.

The second day for COMPACT 2021 will commence tomorrow, Dec. 14.
