Guest speaker and guidance counselor Christina Liza Labuac emphasized that cyberbullying is a timely topic for everyone as she shared that being in cyberspace is our new second home due to the pandemic.
During the De La Salle University- Dasmariñas (DLSU-D) Chorale’s online event titled “Dear Self: Break the Silence” on Saturday, October 23, Labuac claims that cyberbullying is real, present and is happening. It’s still a form of bullying that happens in the digital world through our electronic devices.
One of the advice of the guidance counselor when faced with electronic bullying is to not to engage but to block the bully and inform immediately your parents or guardians and teachers of the disrupting online interaction.
To destress from the toxic atmosphere online, Labuac suggested to “Take a step back on social media.”
More importantly, Labuac stressed out that seeking help from your counselor should not be restricted, explaining that there is nothing to be afraid of when you need to talk to your counselor.
Project Head Kai Tabotabo shared that the aim of this year’s “Dear Self” is to “tell people that listening to others isn’t a bad thing but we also need to prioritize our mental health [too]”.
