This year’s week-long Lasallian Festival (LSF) and Students’ Week Joint Celebration has come to an end on Friday, April 23, which made several students expressed their generally positive reactions about the said event.

According to Frances De Leon (PSY12), her last attendance of the LSF and Students’ Week was when she was in Senior High School.

“It’s actually a little saddening not being able to attend (face-to-face) my first ever Lasallian Festival as a college student,” she said

Furthermore, Vince Erick Chan (BSM11) said, “I think the festivities felt odd because we used to walk the streets of our school when going to events.”

However, De Leon and Chan agreed that despite the event happening online, they can “still feel the Lasallian spirit,” and it created an “impact of being a Lasallian when students collectively participate to the online events not only because it is a requirement, but also for having insights with the said events.”

On the other hand, Lana Lim (COM12), who attended the LSF for the first time, showed appreciation for the organizers who made the events possible in a remote set-up.

“With the given time constraints and new normal setup, I’d say the first Online Lasallian Event was great. The events were very diverse and open to the different interests of the students,” Lim stated.

Challenges met by student organizers

Council of Student Organizations (CSO) member, Patricia Batalon (MKA31) shared the challenges they encountered in establishing the “Kabataan, Arat Na! A Youth Leadership Congress” event held on the last day of LSF.

“It is challenging since we had to learn some technical stuff when conducting online activities that require live streaming. The way of communication was somehow affected due to the availability of time. Nevertheless, it is convenient for a fact that we have fewer expenses for the event.” Batalon stated.

Meanwhile, College of Business Administration & Accountancy Student Government (CBAASG) Governor, Darren Maristela (MKA33) encountered the same struggle in communication for their “Meraki: Unravel Your Potential” event saying, “communication is very hard on our team because we rarely have a complete attendance during meetings since there’s lots of assessments and most of us are third year students taking our major subjects.”

Batalon and Maristela stated the same thought that “there are more participants in this year’s Lasallian Festival” and the platform “enabled us to reach a wider scope of audience.”

The joint celebration of the virtual LSF and Students’ Week commenced from April 19 to 24.
