University registrar clarifies enrollment queries

The enrollment for the second semester of the current academic year garnered mixed feedbacks from students, particularly during the online registration and payment transactions.
Negative feedbacks
Some students expressed their disappointment towards the online enrollment pushing through despite the Taal Volcano eruption. “I think that they shouldn’t have pushed through with the enrollment since a lot of students (who) came from the affected areas of the Taal eruption didn’t have electricity and internet access at that time,” Hannah Morallo (BTM12) said.
Moreover, other students raised their concern towards the queue in the enrollment counters, which has been observed as one of the primary dilemmas over the past semesters. “I can consider that day as (a) worst experience. Falling in line for almost four hours is no joke,” Reylan Rivas (PSC21) stated.
Positive feedbacks
On the other hand, some students have also commended the process of the online enrollment and counter transactions this semester, despite the criticisms it received.
Samantha Gacusan (MMA11) stated that the recent enrollment process has been fast and easy. “All I need was the confirmation slip from the pre-registration, cash, and a little patience for the line, and I was done in less than 30 minutes,” she added.
Meanwhile, Alyza Delos Santos (COM21) compared the enrollment process of the past academic year to the recent one, stating that she encountered less problems this time than the previous semesters .
University Registrar’s response
In an interview with Green FM, University Registrar Paulino Gatpandan said that he understands and addresses the negative reactions coming from the students.
Gatpandan reiterated that the online enrollment cannot be simply adjusted into a later date, as requested by several enrollees. “Adjustment on a later date will affect the opening of classes and (the) adjustments on the academic calendar for the second semester,” Gatpandan told Green FM.
However, Gatpandan clarified that the online enrollment was extended until January 23 instead of its original scheduled deadline on January 20.
He also stated that the University Registrar’s office has implemented some additional adjustments, including the extension of adding and dropping period of subjects, in consideration to the students affected by the volcanic eruption.
Gatpandan assured the community that the enrollment committee consistently evaluates the enrollment process and gathers feedbacks every semester to discuss possible solutions on the identified issues.
Meanwhile, Green FM tried to reach the University’s Accounting and Finance Office to clarify other concerns, but they haven’t released a statement as of the press time.
