I. Freedom of the Press
As stipulated in the 1987 Constitution of the Republic of the Philippines Article 3 Section 4 and as a declared policy in R.A. No. 7079 or the Campus Journalism Act of 1991, it is highly integral to defend the freedom of speech, expression, and the press even at the campus level. Thus, to further guarantee the freedom of the press and the society:
- The Digital and Multimedia Journalism students under DigiSalle are protected by the Bill of Rights, Section 4, and the Republic Act. 7079 of the Republic of the Philippines;Â
- Social media platforms and this website will serve as the management’s platforms for delivering relevant information to its audience;Â
- Students who write and produce for DigiSalle should be knowledgeable of journalism ethics and principles;Â
- DigiSalle will not sort to censorship of any truthful information to protect anyone’s image and/or reputation except for confidential sources, minors, and analogous individuals whose circumstances may be jeopardized by being identified publicly;Â
- DigiSalle resists tolerating any forms of plagiarism, falsification of information, and biased delivery;Â
- DigiSalle shall fact-check and verify the information that it will release to the public through all its outputs; andÂ
- DigiSalle shall not air and/or stream any libelous, slanderous, or malicious content that could lead to public distrust.
II. Media Publication Protection Program
In conjunction with Republic Act No. 7079 referred as the Campus Journalism Act of 1991, the University Student Government of the university established the MEDIA PUBLICATION PROTECTION PROGRAM OF DE LA SALLE UNIVERSITY- DASMARIÑAS to assure the protection of the management and staff of DLSU-D organizations such as 95.9 Green FM, and Heraldo Filipino. The act further states that:
- DigiSalle is supported by Article III, Section 9 of the University Student Government Constitution that states the right of every student to speech and/or to petition the student government, school authorities, rules, and regulations for a redress of grievances as long as it conforms to civility.
- DigiSalle is also protected by Article III, Section 11 of the University Student Government Constitution that states the responsible exercise of the rights of student publications to freedom of the press shall not be infringed, without fear of reprisal, persecution, or punitive action by authorities.
- The Publication Advisers of the Media Publications shall have responsibilities that are confined to technical guidance which shall be limited to concerns related to proofreading, grammatical errors, and the like.
- Campus Journalists who do not violate any Journalism Code of Ethics or any rule in the DLSU-D Student Handbook shall not be expelled or suspended solely because of the articles he or she has authored or the fulfillment of his or her responsibilities in the student publication.
- Campus Journalists who may have encountered dangerous experiences in their field of media such but not limited to libel and sexual harassment may undergo psychological counseling with the aid of the Student Wellness Center.
- Any grievance from a Campus Journalist shall be supported or represented by the Chief Executive of the Program Council, the College Student Government of the Campus Journalist/s, and the President of the University Student Government.
- Any individual who will interfere with, restrain, or coerce any student publication or student journalist in the exercise of his rights and functions protected by this act shall be subjected to punishment according to what Republic Act 7079 and the DLSU-D Handbook constitute.
