Campus journalists from 20 private schools in Cavite participated in a free training and seminar at De La Salle University-Dasmariñas on Wednesday.

The whole-day event was entitled “Campus Media Ignite” with the theme “Empowering Campus Media: Enhancing Skills and Leadership for Student Journalists”.

Francine Luego, a Grade 12 student at Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite, pointed out how the event opened the opportunity for campus journalists like her to learn from experts in the field.

“I thought the setup was going to be formal, so I didn’t expect for the seminar to be so interactive,” Luego said. “As a student journo, the way the keynote speakers communicated to us in a conversational way made it more exciting to learn.”

“This seminar opened my eyes to see the true reason why it’s important to keep delivering, writing, and sharing the issues in society through news—our fellow countrymen,” she added.

The event touched on different categories of journalism such as feature writing, news writing, digital photojournalism, editorial/opinion writing, and radio broadcasting.

It featured five speakers: FAMAS awardee and author Maria “Bing” Carrion, Dr. Crisanto Avila of Aloysian Publications, Ria Fernandez-Obina of TV5, full-time faculty Dr. Marco Polo, and Ralph Obina of DZBB.

The Communication & Journalism Department of DLSU-D which initiated this event is going to hold another free seminar this time for public high schools soon.
