[PRESS RELEASE] “CPR can improve survival 2.2 times,” says emergency trainer in COMPACT 2023’s basic life support program

City of Dasmariñas, Cavite — On its third-day, Communication Impact (COMPACT) 2023, the annual event of De La Salle University–Dasmariñas’ Communication and Journalism Department began by showcasing the importance of fostering resilience and preparedness in communities facing emergencies through a basic life support training event entitled, “Building Resilience: Empowering Communities Through Emergency Preparedness.”

Lasallian Community Development Center (LCDC) faculty member Sofia Gapasin and coordinator Jhelyn Relopez spearheaded the training. 

The program included relevant topics explaining the importance of HOCPR (Hands-only cardiopulmonary resuscitation) training, to the AED (Automated External Defibrillator) in the new normal.

Gapasin started her discussion presenting the Hands Only CPR in New Normal which are, “Check, Call, Cover, Compress and Connect.” She urged the participants to be knowledgeable when it comes to the basic life support training in case of emergency situations, because it is a life skill that every Lasallian can have. 

“If done immediately can increase survival by 50%, that’s why training is important,” Gapasin Stated. She stressed firmly that performing CPR can improve survival 2.2 times.

Furthermore, Relopez also mentioned the importance of having first aid essentials to which she referred to as the “Every Day Carry (EDC).” It ought to include survival materials like gloves and face masks to safeguard the Lasallian community during emergency situations.

“To have a CPR ready [country], managing CPR and AED as a life skill can save a life,” Relopez reminded. 

To end the morning event, attendees from different college departments participated and were able to experience and gain knowledge of basic life support as well as to experience #ThePowerOfOurHands.
