On its two-day virtual event, the Lasallian Pop Band (LPB) commenced their intercollegiate singing competition, Lasallian Pop Icon, by showcasing different talents of students from the seven colleges of De La Salle University-Dasmariñas (DLSU-D).
Jericho Flores from College of Business Administration & Accountancy (CBAA) was crowned as People’s Choice award and title holder of Lasallian Pop Icon 2021.
On his religious pick of Warrior is a Child by Gary Valenciano during the first day, Flores mentioned that his song choice was meant to relay the message of the lyrics to the audience.
“In this time of pandemic, we should be reminded that [God] is there, that we can overcome and face those challenges basta maniwala lang tayo… Music is [also] everywhere just like God,” he said.
Meanwhile, on the event’s second day, Lipad ng Pangarap, originally sung by Dessa, was his last winning piece to perform on the virtual stream.
“Sa umpisa, inaral ko ‘yung totoong song, ‘yung original song. Inaral ko [r]in kung paano lalagyan ng flavor [at] kung paano ko i-interpret na akin ‘yung song kasi ganun dapat pag nagpe-perform ka, ino-own mo ‘yung song,” Flores shared.
On the other hand, Jewel Parasdas from College of Tourism and Hospitality Management (CTHM) and Justine Dapatnapo from College of Science and Computer Studies (CSCS) placed 1st and 2nd runner up, respectively.
