De La Salle University- Dasmariñas (DLSU-D) has officially kicked off Lasallian Festival with the theme, “#WeGotYou: Living the Lasallian Mission Towards The New Normal.”
The festival’s opening ceremony was conducted via Microsoft Teams.
University Student Government (USG) President Julius Roxas explained that the main goal of the festival is to aid those people who are in need during the pandemic and to let the student body experience various activities initiated by the Lasallian community.
“[The] goal of this event is to help the students to relax, enjoy, and learn from the different activities given by their respective organizations. [It] is aligned to the Lasallian core values,” he said.
Moreover, Franchesca Garcia, the Council of Student Organizations (CSO) President, mentioned that the beneficiaries for the event will also include scholars of DLSU-D and people who were affected by the Taal Volcano eruption.
When asked about this year’s theme events, she said that joining their activities like the “Kabataan, Arat Na! A Youth Leadership Congress” will develop leadership among students.
“[The goal is] to achieve academic, social, and moral excellence through activities that will provide the needs of the student body. This is [also] to inspire our fellow youth to create an impact in the community by making use of their org[anizations’] objectives and advocacies as individuals,” she added.
Students’ reactions
Juliana Villanueva (PSC11) explained that the event may have been a different experience in the virtual world.
“It definitely cannot be compared to how the previous Lasallian weeks were celebrated [in a face-to-face setup]. The Lasallian [Festival] is heavily limited by the lockdown and current setup. Nevertheless, it can still be fun in its own right,” Villanueva explained.
On the other hand, Feliz Dotillos (PSY12) has been looking forward to this week’s event despite the load of assessments.
“May excitement pa rin [akong] nafi-feel kahit nasa online setup, lalo na ‘yung [i]pinakita[ng] schedule ng [mga]activities for the week [katulad ng kay] Ms. Joy Parohinog na Sectorial Lasallian Reflection Session. Inaabangan ko rin [siya bukas],” Dotillos shared.
This year’s virtual joint celebration of Lasallian Festival and Students’ Week will commence from April 19 to 23.
